Whether it’s to get started in teaching, return to teaching or just to support students while retaining a flexible schedule, interested candidates are invited to learn about substitute teaching in Henrico at our upcoming job fair.
Henrico County Public Schools is seeking substitute teachers and other positions ahead of the 2026-27 school year. The division will hold a job fair Tuesday, July 7, from noon to 4 p.m. at the HCPS Parham Road offices (1910 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA) where department representatives will be available to discuss openings across the school division.
HCPS is seeking three categories of substitute teachers:
Daily substitutes have great flexibility. They decide how often they substitute and where and what grade or subject they teach. They earn $144.38 per day, Monday through Thursday, and $169.50 on Fridays. Candidates must have a minimum of 60 undergraduate credit hours.
Long-term, or “board” substitutes, commit to filling one teaching position for at least 21 consecutive school days, often to fill in for a teacher on extended leave. Long-term substitutes currently earn $271.84 per day and are eligible for health care benefits for themselves and their children. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree. These positions are posted individually by school.
Permanent substitutes are assigned to a particular school and substitute wherever needed in that building. They earn $23.36 per hour and are eligible for health care benefits for themselves and their children. These positions are posted individually by school. Candidates must have a minimum of 60 undergraduate credit hours.
Please note that retired teachers must wait 90 days from the day of their retirement to fill a substitute role.
