YAYWORTHY:

Nominator Natalie Edwards said,

"Mrs. Melendez goes far beyond delivering lessons — she ensures students truly understand and grow. She provides rich, thoughtful insights and takes the time to explain concepts in ways that meet students where they are, making sure learning is something they grasp and apply rather than simply hear. Her approach reflects a genuine commitment to student success, and it is clear she speaks with her students, not at them."

"Her support extends well beyond the classroom. During recent snow days, she thoughtfully sent families a list of creative ideas to help students stay active, engaged and learning while at home. This simple but meaningful gesture showed how deeply she cares about her students’ well-being and continued growth, even when school is not in session. In addition, Mrs. Melendez is consistently available, encouraging and supportive of student involvement in clubs and the gifted program. She fosters confidence, curiosity and connection, helping students feel seen, capable and motivated. Her professionalism, integrity and steady encouragement make a lasting difference in the lives of her students and families. She represents the very best of HCPS, and I cannot think of a more deserving educator to be recognized with a Yay of the Day honor."

Thank you for all you do, LaShanda Melendez, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
