HENRICO, Va., Feb. 26, 2026 — Henrico County Public Schools is pleased to welcome Dr. Michelle Boyd as the division’s new chief of staff. As a veteran educator with more than 23 years of classroom and leadership experience, Boyd has a deep understanding of school operations and strategies to support student achievement.
Boyd currently serves as a regional assistant superintendent for Fairfax County Public Schools, overseeing 24 schools and 24,000 students. There, she leads initiatives to increase student learning outcomes and strengthen engagement with families and community partners.
Previously, Boyd served as assistant superintendent for special services in Fairfax Schools, leading special education programs, student services, health services and language services. She’s also held leadership positions with Richmond Public Schools and a regional program serving students with disabilities in Charlottesville. Boyd began her career as a special education teacher and remains an advocate for students with disabilities.
“Dr. Boyd is an innovative and collaborative leader with a proven track record of meaningful results,” said Henrico Schools Superintendent Amy Cashwell. “Her work aligning resources and people has contributed to measurable gains in Algebra I enrollment, English learner progress and reading proficiency among students with disabilities.”
As chief of staff, Boyd will work with central office and school leaders to ensure alignment across departments, lead policy development and oversee the Department of Accountability, Research and Evaluation.
This is a homecoming of sorts for Boyd, as her family lives in Henrico and her children are recent HCPS graduates.
“I am energized to join the Henrico team and serve a community that means so much to my family,” Boyd said. “My children had an outstanding school experience, and I know first-hand the division’s commitment to students and employees. I look forward to working with Dr. Cashwell, the School Board, staff and families to empower every learner.”
Boyd holds a doctorate in educational policy, planning and leadership from the College of William and Mary, as well as degrees from the University of Maryland and Clarion University in Pennsylvania.
Boyd will officially join Henrico County Public Schools in March.
