YAYWORTHY:
Nominator Emily Bruns said,
"She has already made such a meaningful impact on my son's growth and overall experience at Tuckahoe, not to mention my own experience as a special needs parent. Ever since this year's Open House, Ms. Colon has gone above and beyond to meet my son's needs with patience, creativity and genuine care. She communicates proactively, celebrates his progress, and approaches challenges with thoughtful solutions. Most importantly, she truly sees Lucas for who he is and meets him exactly where he is as a student and an individual. Having had the opportunity to accompany the class on this year's Challenger Day field trip, I got to see firsthand how much she enjoys working with her students, and the positive and upbeat atmosphere she creates for her students and IA team. This is my son's fourth year in Henrico Schools, and while he has had wonderful and caring teachers each year, he has never been so happy to go to school each day. As a parent, I have never felt so comfortable and confident sending him to school despite his complex medical and behavioral support needs."
Nominator Tyler Julian said,
"When you enter Ms. Colon’s classroom, you’re immediately greeted by an atmosphere filled with positive energy. Every student has individualized incentives designed around their unique preferences, fostering motivation and engagement. While leading a whole-group, on-time measurement, Ms. Colon demonstrated exceptional preparation—her questions were thoughtfully crafted to align with each student’s communication style, whether through sign language, AAC devices, or vocal responses. This intentional approach ensured that every learner has a voice and feels included in the learning process."
Thank you for all you do, Lianna Colon, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
