Each year, members of the Henrico School Board elect two of their peers to serve as chair and vice-chair of the Board. At its Jan. 8 meeting, the Board tapped Madison Irving of the Three Chopt District as chair and Ryan Young from the Fairfield District as vice-chair.

Elected to the School Board in Nov. 2023, Irving says his primary focus is to empower teachers and staff, understanding that their success directly impacts the success of their students. Irving began his career as an educator in Henrico County, teaching economics and personal finance at Varina and Hermitage high schools before accepting a teaching position in Chesterfield County. Irving said his firsthand experience as a teacher and parent motivated him to run for the school board.

Ryan Young is serving his first term on the School Board. A self-described advocate for change, Young wants to build upon the school division’s successes to ensure that all children receive a quality education, regardless of their race or their family’s socioeconomic status. A proud Henrico High School graduate, Young is a longtime youth mentor and basketball coach who is committed to engaging young people and their families in our schools.
