Henrico County Public Schools is searching for bus drivers to add to its Pupil Transportation staff for the 2025-26 school year, and prospective drivers will have the opportunity to get in the driver’s seat and test drive one of HCPS’ newest vehicles at our “Drive the Bus” hiring event, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, in the parking lot at Hermitage High School.
This annual hiring event allows interested applicants to steer one of our school buses through a course and learn the ins and outs of how our 400-plus drivers safely and efficiently transport more than 28,000 students to and from schools every single day. Along with the test drive, attendees will learn about all the advantages of joining Henrico Schools, including pay, job duties, work schedule and benefits.
HCPS is a pay leader for bus drivers in central Virginia, with the starting salary for new bus drivers increasing to a minimum of $25.54, effective July 1.
Interested participants (with valid Virginia driver’s licenses) should sign up for the “Drive the Bus” event at hcps.info/DriveTheBus2025.
Attendees can interview at the event for positions with the school division. As a qualified bus driver candidate, you’ll also be paid as you train. Driving a school bus is more than just driving — it’s about playing a crucial role in the lives of students, parents and the Henrico community.
