Opening in Fall 2026, the Center for Cybersecurity at Henrico High School will prepare students for success in one of the fastest-growing, highest-paying fields in the world. 

Students will engage in rigorous, hands-on learning focused on cybersecurity, data science, and global perspectives. The program culminates in the opportunity to earn the CompTIA Security+ certification, a globally recognized credential that opens doors to careers such as Network Security Analyst, Security Architect, and Security Administrator.

In addition to a direct pathway into high-demand jobs, the Center integrates specialized data science and geopolitical coursework, preparing students who wish to continue their studies at the college level. Students will gain technical expertise, ethical decision-making skills, and a strong foundation in global citizenship, all while benefiting from partnerships with higher education and industry professionals.

Curriculum

The Center for Cybersecurity offers a four-year, honors-level program combining technical skill development with interdisciplinary learning in mathematics, computer science, and history. The curriculum emphasizes project-based learning, industry certification preparation, and real-world application. A projected course sequence includes:

Industry Certification:

  • CompTIA Security+ — validates core security skills and qualifies students for a range of entry-level to mid-level cybersecurity careers.

Unique Program Features:

  • Integration of data science and global studies into technical curriculum

  • Access to Virginia Cyber Range and dedicated sandbox lab environments

  • Emphasis on LifeReady skills: problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and ethical decision-making

Optional Elective Offerings:

  • AP Comparative Government and Politics

  • IB Computer Science or AP Computer Science Principles/Applications / Coding I

  • AP Cybersecurity

2025 Open House: Thursday, Oct. 9 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Henrico High School.

The application window opens at 9 a.m. on Sept. 29 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 14.

Applicant Selection Criteria

The Center for Cybersecurity at Henrico High School seeks motivated students with a strong interest in technology, problem-solving, and global issues.

Students should demonstrate:

  • Academic Readiness: Strong performance and interest in math, history, and computer science

  • Technical Aptitude: Interest in computing, data analysis, and cybersecurity concepts.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think critically and approach challenges methodically.

  • Ethical Awareness: Understanding of responsible technology use, security, and digital citizenship.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain ideas clearly, both in writing and verbally.

Evaluation Process:

 Applications are reviewed holistically and may include:

  • Academic transcript review (grades and course rigor)

  • Teacher recommendations

  • Student responses to program-specific writing prompts

  • Assessment of problem-solving and analytical thinking skills

Certification and College Credit Opportunities:

All students in the program will work toward earning the CompTIA Security+ certification, providing a pathway to high-demand careers such as Network Security Analyst and Security Architect. Dual enrollment opportunities will offer the potential for college credit toward advanced studies.

  • September 11, 2025 – Info Session @ Tucker HS | 5:30–8:00 PM

  • September 29, 2025 – Application window opens

  • November 14, 2025 – Application window closes

  • November 2025–February 2026 – Applications reviewed and evaluated

  • February 13, 2026 – Students notified of acceptance in the application portal

  • Fall 2026 – First freshman cohort begins classes.
