Frequently Asked Questions
-
Every year, Henrico County Public Schools invites families, staff and students in grades 3-12 to share their feedback on what we’re doing well and where we can grow. Your voice is a vital part of our Journey to 2030 roadmap, helping us measure our progress toward our goals.
-
Your feedback helps us track our Journey to 2030 goals and decide where to invest resources and programs to best support our schools. Results from previous surveys led to the some of the following changes:
-
When teachers told us they wanted professional learning opportunities that tied more closely to their daily work and instructional needs, we launched the “Choose Your Own Adventure” professional learning series and offered conference-style sessions to provide more choices.
-
When students indicated they did not always see how what they learned in the classroom connected to real life and future careers, we expanded access to programs like the FIRST LEGO League and virtual reality experiences, as well as built an interdisciplinary unit for 9th grade students that provides information on career paths.
-
When families indicated a desire for schools to provide stronger support in helping students resolve conflicts safely and peacefully, we implemented a new peer mediation program at some high schools.

On March 2, look for a message sent through ParentSquare titled "HCPS Survey 2026" or use the link that will be posted on this page. Please submit one survey per school your children attend by March 27.
-
Yes. To ensure privacy, HCPS partners with the Institute for Collaborative Research and Evaluation, a research group at Virginia Commonwealth University, to conduct the surveys. Survey responses are anonymous, meaning we will not collect any names or identifying information. If you choose to enter the prize drawing for your child’s school/teacher, your contact information is kept entirely separate from your survey answers.
-
The survey focuses on the four goals of our Journey to 2030 plan:
-
Academic Achievement: How well our schools provide high-quality, rigorous instruction in core subjects like reading and math, while helping students develop essential life skills—such as critical thinking and collaboration—that connect classroom lessons to real-world situations.
-
Learning Environment: Your thoughts on school safety, building cleanliness and the use of technology.
-
Physical, Social, Emotional and Mental Health: Your sense of belonging and awareness of mental health resources.
-
Recruit, Engage, Retain and Reward Staff: Feedback on professional growth, recognition and workplace support (for employees only).
The survey also includes demographic questions (such as school and grade level) and open-ended sections where you can share specific suggestions for improvement.

If you have several students enrolled in HCPS, you'll have the opportunity to complete several surveys to tell us about your experiences at different schools. It’s your choice whether you want to complete multiple surveys. Should you choose to complete only one, please select the school you are most familiar with.
