Greenwood Family,

The countdown is on—school begins Monday, August 18, and we are ready to Return to Better! This year, we’re embracing our theme of One Team, One Dream—where every student, staff member, and family works together to build something extraordinary. Let’s make this our strongest year yet!

Please take a moment to read these important updates as we prepare for a great start:

Back to School Forms
The PowerSchool Parent Portal is now open for families to complete all required forms through Ecollect. Click HERE to complete the required forms. Your child’s teacher may have additional forms to complete on August 14 at Open House.

Enrollment and Missing Forms: Do Not Wait
If you have an incoming Greenwood Gator who hasn't completed enrollment, please stop by the main office this week to meet with Mrs. Christina. We still have several students missing important registration documents, including medical forms. Students cannot begin school without all required forms completed and submitted. Please do not wait until the first day of school to turn them in.  Have questions? Call us at 804-261-2970—we’re happy to help!

Drinks for Teachers’ Return: Help Us Stock the Fridge!
We’re looking for donations of drinks to help welcome back our amazing staff as they begin setting up their classrooms! You can help make their return even more refreshing by donating items such as sodas, bottled water, iced coffee, sports drinks, flavored sparkling water, or juice boxes.

If you'd like to contribute, please drop off drinks at Greenwood on any of the following days:
 📍 Wednesday (7/30) or Thursday (7/31) from 9 AM – 3 PM
 📍 Monday (8/4) or Tuesday (8/5) from 7 AM – 3 PM

Let’s show our teachers how much they’re appreciated as they gear up for an incredible school year!

Bus Transportation Update
Thank you for your patience as the transportation team finalizes bus routes for the new school year. We are hopeful that all routes will be available by Thursday, August 14, during Open House. Once released, we encourage families to review their route information carefully and reach out with any questions before the first day of school.

Friday, August 1: Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein
We look forward to hosting our 2nd episode of the year at 9 AM virtually with our community. We will answer any questions that were submitted a head of time. We will also discuss our enrollment numbers, Open House Reminders, supply list, school/PTA fundraiser importance, tryout process for Cheerleaders, Advanced Drumline (ADL), Tubano, and Advanced Dance (The Heat). We will also discuss 1st day of school reminders, which are great for our new families and incoming KinderGators.

This is a perfect chance for new families to learn more about our school and for returning families to stay in the know.

Tuesday, August 5: Teacher Placement
Teacher assignments will be sent digitally via ParentSquare in a fun puzzle format! This year, we're saying goodbye to postcards to ensure all families receive their teacher placement at the same time. We take great pride in our placement process, which includes thoughtful data conversations to ensure the best possible fit for each child. Every detail matters when it comes to supporting your child’s growth.

Thursday, August 14: Orientation and Open House
This is a great opportunity to connect early, see your child’s learning space, and set a positive tone for the year!
9:00 AM

  • PK & Kindergarten Orientation: Gym

  • New Family Orientation (1st–5th): Library

11:00 AM–1:00 PM
All returning 1st–5th grade families are invited to drop off supplies and meet their teacher.

Sunday, August 17: The Night Before School Virtual Reading, PTA Meeting, and PAC Greetings @ 6 PM
Join us for a cherished Greenwood tradition! We’ll kick off the evening with a special virtual book reading created by our staff to help students get excited for Day 1. After the reading, stay on for:

  • Q&A session with Mr. Stein and our admin team

  • Introductions to our PTA Board

  • Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) greetings and support

We’re here to make sure every family feels confident and supported heading into the first day!

Monday, August 18: First Day of School
The first day is always magical, and we can’t wait to welcome our Gators back!

🕖 Morning arrival begins at 7:10 AM.

🚗 Car riders: Use both lanes and stay in your car. If your child needs help opening the door, please park and walk them in.

🚌 Bus riders: Please arrive 5 minutes early to both pick-up and drop-off stops. Be patient with drivers as they learn new names and routes.

📸 Parents are not allowed inside the building on the first day. Don’t worry—we’ll have plenty of staff on hand to make sure every child gets to class with a smile!

⏰ The late bell rings at 7:40 AM. Let’s help all our students start strong and on time!

📇 Note: All PK and Kindergarten parents must have a valid ID to receive their child at drop-off.

Calling All High School Sports Team - Sign Up Today
We’re inviting high school student-athletes to help roll out the red carpet for our Gators during the first week of school (August 18–22)! Volunteers will help with morning arrival from 7:10–7:50 AM—opening car doors, greeting students off buses, and walking them to class. Your school spirit and positive energy will go a long way in creating a welcoming first-week experience!

Smart Watches & Cell Phones
As a reminder, HCPS policy does not permit students to use cell phones or smart watches during instructional hours. As you prepare for your student’s return to school, please ensure that smart watches are left at home or kept off and stored away during the school day. Thank you for supporting a focused learning environment for all students.
