Greenwood Family,

We had a great turnout for our first episode of Spilling the Tea as we shared several exciting updates in preparation for the most dynamic school year yet! To keep the momentum going, I’ll continue hosting monthly chats to answer your questions and remain transparent about our school’s action plans, student achievement data, instructional practices, family engagement efforts, and school culture initiatives.

During our virtual meeting, several questions came up multiple times, and I want to be sure everyone has the answers:

  • Families will receive their teacher assignments via ParentSquare the first week of August. We will not be mailing postcards this year.

  • Bus pick-up and drop-off times will typically be shared 2–3 days before school starts.

  • On Thursday, August 14, we will host PK, Kindergarten, and New Family Orientation at 9 AM, and returning 1st–5th grade families can drop off school supplies and meet their teachers between 11 AM and 1 PM.

  • Don’t wait to register for the after-school program, Learning and Discovery, which runs from 2–6 PM daily at Greenwood. You can register at henricogives.org/learning-discovery, and for questions or information about the waitlist, please contact the site director, Ashley Reed, at areed@henricogives.org.

Following our meeting, we took the transcript from the recorded session and used NotebookLM, an AI-powered tool, to generate a podcast summarizing the key takeaways. This allows families who weren’t able to attend live to still access the important information and stay connected. You can listen to the Spilling the Tea episode from July 11, 2025, at your convenience to catch up on updates, announcements, and next steps as we gear up for an incredible year.

In addition, we used AI to create a second podcast that outlines the highlights of Henrico County Public Schools’ Journey to 2030 strategic plan. This vision centers around five key goals: academic growth, inclusive practices, workforce development, student wellness, and family engagement. We’ve shared this episode with our staff to ground our collective efforts in the division’s long-term mission and ensure our work at Greenwood aligns with countywide priorities.

We’ve loved seeing the creativity from our students and families through the One Team, One Dream Logo Challenge! If you haven’t submitted your design yet, there’s still time—entries are due by July 25 to rtstein@henrico.k12.va.us. You can visit Greenwood Elementary on Facebook to see the 30+ entries that have been submitted. Our Instructional Leadership Team will review all submissions and vote on the winning logo during our leadership retreat on July 31 and we will announce the first week in August our winner! We can’t wait to see your ideas come to life!

We also hope you’ll join Henrico County Public Schools on July 31 at the Henrico Sports & Events Center for an exciting Back-to-School Kickoff event. It’s a great opportunity to connect with educators and community partners as we gear up for the new year. Please note that this date is the same day as our Instructional Leadership retreat so our administrators will not be present unfortunately; however, you can bump into other Greenwood staff at this event.

As always, we value and appreciate our amazing Greenwood families. If you’re interested in volunteering this year—in classrooms, on field trips, or during schoolwide events—keep an eye out for our volunteer interest form coming soon.

Don’t forget to follow us on social media (@Greenwood_Elem on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) to catch all the highlights of our summer magic and stay in the loop!
